The film had its premiere on 19.12.1938 at the Marmorhaus cinema in Berlin. It is a typical cultural film for its time about the lesser-known sides of Rügen with interesting insights into the many thousand year old history of the island: Germanic mound graves near Lauterbach, untouched oak forests, the royal grave near Saßnitz and the old castle ramparts at Lake Hertha. In Prora there is still no "power through joy" seaside resort, but only a lonely, picturesque beach. The film explains the processes of chalk extraction and the arduous work of the fishermen. In addition, it impresses with picturesque landscape shots that capture the charm of the island in the most beautiful way. License by courtesy of the Federal Archives/Filmarchiv.
