Rules of the Assembly Line, at High Speed

In the West German province, Eastern European contract workers at Germany's largest pig slaughterhouse are fighting for survival, while activists fighting for their rights are battling with the authorities. At the same time, Munich high school students rehearse the Bertolt Brecht play "Die Heilige Johanna der Schlachthöfe" (Saint Joan of the Slaughterhouses), which already in 1931 dealt with market power and the formation of monopolies and the exploitation and lockout of workers - and reflect on German economic structures and their relationship to them. Interwoven with the thought processes of the young people and their engagement with the text in rehearsals, the film tells in different fragments about conditions and facets of temporary work and labor migration in Germany. A film about the state of work and questions of morality, where open national and market borders mean danger for some and capital for others.
